Loch Raven Watershed
Parking off NW shoulder Seminary and Dulaney Valley.
Use the path close to the resevoir shore. At a place where a pine is very close to a cedar with buck rubs, go CROSS-country about 50 paces.. Examine a tree with many vines for something that is not a vine but may look similiar to one.
CROSS TREES of sailing ships were horizontal, thwartship timbers, that spread the shrouds supporting topmasts. It offered an elevated perch for lookouts or sharpshooters. (If you look up you may find tree stands in these woods, that also provide a hunter with a lofty platform to better see and shoot.)
Here is a hint: exchange feet for time in title of USAAF 1949 movie with Gregory Peck.
Bonus clue: A cut sapling is jury-rig for halyard functions. BYOPen
