VILLA BOSNIACKI Sigismondo De Bosniacki came from Poland e when, in
1873, he arrived in Italy, where he decided to live, he did not
hesitate to choose San Giuliano, because he loved the rocky and
impervious Monte Castellare, starting immediately a mysterious and
secret dialogue with that wild place. Retired into the villa he
ordered to be built just on the Castellare rock, he wanted to
immerse his soul and his philanthropic thought, in a perfect
harmony between nature and landscape, creating there his own world.
In this parched land, broom and other fragrances scented, De
Bosniacki had affections, made his daily business, cultivated his
passions and interests as a cultured researcher and scientist. De
Bosniascki was interested in fossils, that put in perfect order and
kept in his villa basement. There he ordered to build both
furniture fitting to keep the numerous finds and tables on which he
could observe the specimen. The basement was a kind of private
museum, open to few friends and scholars, to be considered, anyway,
a kind of holy place, a reliquary. The intense activity as scholar,
researcher, scientific promoter let De Bosniacki meet famous
professors at Pisa University, as the Venetian Giuseppe Meneghini,
professor of geology and mineralogy, with whom he made friends.
Scholars and researchers let him intensify the contacts with the
Academic world and take part of meeting, congresses and workshops,
getting gratifying compliments, that led him to divulge his
researches. On the occasion of the Geological Congress, that took
place in Lucca in 1885, De Bosniacki exposed to the public his huge
paleontologic collection, in premises of Casino delle Terme di San
Giuliano. In this way, he won scientific world praise and he
attracted many local visitors interested in such studies. De
Bosniacki died in 1921. He left his huge paleontologic collection
as hereditary to his friends, Antonini brothers, and the villa was
sold to Pisa University. Of this beautiful villa now remains only
ruins, as Castellare remains, to show the impetus rush of the time,
that obliterates everything. One of the purpose of the Sheltered
Place is just to let De Bosniacki memory survive. VILLA BOSNIASKI
Sigismondo De Bosniascki veniva dalla Polonia e quando giunse in
Italia, nel 1873, dove decise di stabilirsi, non esitn a scegliere
San Giuliano essendosi innamorato del roccioso ed impervio Monte
Castellare, aprendo all’istante con quel luogo selvaggio un segreto
e misterioso dialogo. Ritiratosi nella sua villa, fatta costruire
appositamente sullo sprone del Castellare, intese cose immergere il
suo spirito, il suo pensiero filantropico, in una perfetta armonia
tra natura e paesaggio, creandovi un mondo tutto suo. In questa
terra arida, profumata di ginestre e di altri aromi, De Bosniascki
visse i suoi affetti, svolse i suoi affari quotidiani, coltivn le
sue passioni ed i suoi interessi di ricercatore, di uomo di cultura
e di scienziato.De Bosniascky mostrn interesse per i fossili che
riordinn scrupolosamente e custode nei locali del seminterrato
della villa. Qui fece costruire appositamente mobili per contenere
i numerosi reperti, e tavoli dove esaminare i campioni. Un museo
privato, aperto a pochi amici e studiosi, da considerarsi comunque
una sorta di luogo sacro, un reliquiario. L‘intensa attivitr di
studioso, di ricercatore, di promotore scientifico aveva portato il
De Bosniascki ad incontrare illustri professori dell’Ateneo pisano,
come il veneto Giuseppe Meneghini, professore di geologia e
mineralogia, con il quale strinse una sincera amicizia. Studiosi e
ricercatori lo spinsero ad intensificare i contatti col mondo
accademico e a partecipare a riunioni, congressi ed assemblee
ottenendo lusinghieri incoraggiamenti che lo indussero alla
divulgazione delle sue ricerche. In occasione del Congresso
Geologico del 1885, svoltosi a Lucca, De Bosniascki colse
l’occasione per esporre al pubblico, nei locali del Casino delle
Terme di San Giuliano, la sua cospicua collezione paleontologica
attirando l’interesse del mondo scientifico e di numerosi curiosi
visitatori locali. De Bosniascki c deceduto nel 1921 e la sua ricca
collezione paleontologica, lasciata in ereditr ai suoi amici, i
fratelli Antonini, fu venduta all’Universitr di Pisa. Della bella
villa non c rimasto che lo scheletro, come il rudere del
Castellare, ad indicare l’impietoso scorrere del tempo che tutto
cancella. Una delle finalitr delle Aree Protette c anche quello di
