Newbyth Wood is a relatively recent addition to the East Lothian woodland areas where walkers are welcomed. There are a number of way-marked paths which allow walkers to explore the area, which includes a small pond where a picnic table has been provided. Although the notices at the Car Park (N 56 00.562; W 002 39.136) welcome walkers on an apparently unrestricted basis, the woods are also being managed for pheasant shooting and you may find your enjoyment is seriously diminished by the sound of shotgun blasts - as was the case when I placed the cache! In compensation we had the good fortune to see a herd of five roe deer, two of them with fine sets of antlers.
There are animal traps in the area, no doubt to help protect the pheasant chicks, (so be careful if searching for the cache).
The cache was relocated in May 2011 to a more geo-friendly position. Please replace exactly as found.
