This cache lies in Penmanshiel Wood along that section of the Southern Upland Way between where the Way crosses the A1 near Penmanshiel and where it reaches the coast at Pease Bay.
From the south, you can leave your car beside the bridge over the railway (N 55 54.055; W 002 19.567). To get here, turn left at the unnamed turn-off from the southbound carriageway of the A1 where signs appear indicating the end of the dual carriageway. (If approaching from the Grantshouse direction it is necessary to continue north past this point and turn back onto the southbound carriageway at the turn-off for Coldingham).
Going to the cache from this direction allows you to make a very pleasant round by continuing for about three or four minutes past the site of the cache and returning to the railway bridge by the lower path.
Approaching from the north, there is car parking near the Pease Bay Caravan Site. From here the route takes you through the Nature Reserve of Pease Dean which is full of interesting tree and plant life. As you cross the narrow A1107 road, stop to admire the 130 foot high Pease Bridge. Built in 1786, it was at the time of opening the highest bridge in the world.
The cache has been placed near the highest point on this section of the Way where the trees open out and the geocacher is rewarded with lovely views over East Lothian and the Forth; there is even a convenient bench to rest on!
The walk through Penmanshiel Wood is on a delightful, grassy track.
