Geocache Description:

Located in one of our favorite BC* hiking areas. *BC = Before Caching

State Park Stickers are required. Check the park trail map located near the parking area. The cache is located just off a nice hiking trail in an under utilized area. The Whitetail trail forms a loop, so you may approach from either direction, but do stay on the marked trail as it passes through leased cropland.

Natural Bridge State Park was established in 1973, and along with the two mile Whitetail trail system, there is a great self-guided nature trail that explains the many ways native plants were used throughout history by Native Americans and early European settlers of this area.

The Natural Bridge is located a short distance from the parking lot (N43* 20.720 W089* 55.805). There is a picnic area, but no camping. Just below the Natural Bridge under a small outcropping is one of the oldest known sites where people had lived in the Midwest. It is believed that people were living at Natural Bridge 10,000 to 12,000 years ago. Animal remains identified there include 15 mollusk species and 50 vertebrate species. Of interest are the remains of passenger pigeon, turkey, elk, wolf, bobcat, fisher, marten, and mountain lion.

This cache was originally placed by Hotdogs_Off_Trail. It was transferred to CommanderUSN in March 2021, and then to MTCLMBR in November 2023.
