Geocache Description:

Cache contains a beehive candle, a blank CD-R, a zipper pull with a wind chill chart and thermometer and log book with pencil and sharpener. Please replace lid securely. Location probably requires boots in a wet season.

This area marks the historic site for Steamboat Wharf. It stood near here at Cameron’s Landing for loading passengers on the wood-burning steamer ferry called ‘Pioneer’. Operation began in the late 1800’s as an open-top boat with a capacity for 30 passengers. Cameron’s lake is rock laden, but flows through to Ponhook Lake enabling smooth steaming to Molega (Mines) and Greenfield. This six-day-a-week round trip cost 40 cents each day and beat using the rough roads of the time. The water route was know to the locals as learned from Mi'kmaq.
