Matilda is a 1988 children's book written by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake. In the story, Matilda is a child who shows major precocity at a young age, with her parent's and brother dismissing her abilities and often emotionally abusing her. Her parent's consider her a brat, and because of this they send her to school, meeting her polite and compassionate teacher, Miss Honey, and the mean headmistriss, Agatha Trunchbull.
Matilda has been adapted into a movie, a musical, and a movie based on the musical. Go figure.
