Eight miles west of Midland on Highway 14 on a windswept priarie sets a small tile brick block building. The legend above the door reads "Ray E. Noble Garage" in large letters. This landmark has been photographed and painted by many over the years. The builder of this garage lived near the town of Nowlin (south of the garage a mile and a quarter). Ray E. Noble built the garage in 1927 and had a prosperous trade with tourists and truckers. About 200 yards north, across Highway 14, is the Nowlin Cemetery where Mr. Noble was buried in 1982.
