Geocache Description:

Coordinates above are not where the cache is located.

THE QUESTION: Why is a 2x4 called a 2x4 if that is not what it measures as when you buy it at the lumberyard?

THE ANSWER: Trees that are harvested in the forest for lumber are sent directly to a saw mill. Once at the mill, the raw lumber is cut into the standard dimensions we are familiar with 2x4, 2x6, 2x8, etc. Then it is dried in a kiln, which causes the wood to lose moisture and shrink. The dried wood is then surfaced to give them all a uniform size. These processes cause the lumber to loose some material. However, the original mill cut (2x4) is still used to describe the size, even thought it is now smaller.
Solve the very simple problem to find the true location of the cache.
Use the last three digits of both north and west coordinates listed above to figure out the location of the cache. First, find out what a standard 2x4 actually measure as when you buy it at the lumberyard. You only need height and width in inches. Use decimal form. For example 8 ½ and 8 ¾ inches would become 8.50 and 8.75 inches in decimal form.

Next drop the decimals and you should get two 3 digit numbers (8.50 = 850, 8.75 = 875). The number for height will = A and width will = B. The check sum for A is 6 and check sum for B is 8. Use formula below to solve true coordinates

Correct north coordinate is 366 + A = _____

Correct west coordinate is 328 + B = _____

Cache only includes a log. You will NEED A SHARPIE to sign it. Please sign directly on the cache itself.
