Geocache Description:

Parking is available in front of the church.

The Church of St Mary in Nettlestead is a Grade I listed building.

When I first visited this church my initial reaction was that it was a bit drab, but once I stepped inside and discovered more about its history I came to realize what a hidden gem of a church this is.

Like so many medieval churches, very little remains of the original building. The majority of the present day structure dates from the 15th century. Throughout the years it has been constantly added to and altered. Perhaps the most momentous day in its vast history came on August 12th 1940 when it was severely damaged during a bombing raid in the early days of World War 2.
