Geocache Description:

The cache is located on an outdoor staircase known as the Frederick Street staircase. It is part of a set of stairs that have allowed locals to travel by foot between Downtown Nassau for work to "over the hill" to retire for the day. The “hill” is known as Mount Fitzwilliam.

Nassau is the capital of The Bahamas. Control of the city has changed hands over multiple years. It seems that the inhabitants have had an interest in the protected harbour that Nassau has to offer. Because of this Downtown Nassau has formed around what is now Bay Street. Large churches, the straw market, the sponge trade, hotels and more were largely based around Bay Street.
 
The cache is located on an outdoor staircase known as the Frederick Street staircase. It is part of a set of stairs that have allowed locals to travel by foot between Downtown Nassau for work to "over the hill" to retire for the day. The “hill” is known as Mount Fitzwilliam. At the pinnacle of the mount sits Government House – the residence of the Governor-General. It is located west of the Frederick Street Staircase and can been seen from the top of the stairway. Another popular staircase that has helped connect "over the hill" and downtown is the Queen's Staircase. You may want to look for another cache there.
 
Artwork by local Bahamians is continually increasing and this staircase is no exception by housing two pieces. The first is "Rake n Scrape" by Tyrone Ferguson. Rake n Scrape is a local music tradition in The Bahamas that utilizes household items as instruments. Common items include a drum, spoons, saw with screwdriver and harmonica.
 
The other piece, where the cache is closer to, is a set of wooden sculptures by Antonius Roberts. He is a magnificent sculptor with notable pieces over The Bahamas and around the world.
