A few years back Dr. Charles Kemper donated 80 acres of woodlands to the Chippewa County Land Conservancy (CCLC). According to their website, "The Chippewa County Land Conservancy Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the scenic quality, rural character and natural landscape of Chippewa county." Dr. Kemper used this parcel for over 50 years to do his studies and banding of various bird species. He banded nearly 89,000 birds over the years and the parcel is still considered to be valuable for scientific research.
Kempers Woods is now open to the public and is accessed by a nice gravel parking area with a prominent sign near the road and a two track trail along the length of it's 80 acres of rich oak forest and prairie. Future plans include developing walking trails and perhaps a gazebo but the main focus is to enjoy the natural surroundings and to study nature in an unspoiled environment.
