Geocache Description:

The cache is primarily a winter cache. It is very easy to get and find when you can cross Store Åklungen using skis or skates. Read the description below to figure out how to find the cache.

Store Åklungen is about 4 km from Sognsvann T-bane station. Prepare for some easy up hill skiing and crowded tracks if you follow the main road from Sognsvann to Ullevålseter.

Recommended route is the ski tracks following the road on the west side of Sognsvann. Take the tracks that pass below the “Power View” cache. A little after you pass under the power lines you will find a small track going east that will lead you to Lyn-hytta and Store Åklungen.

For night cachers: This route is very nice in the evening with a great view of Oslo on the way. You only need a small head light on the way up, and then you can take the lighted track down hill back to Sognsvann.

These are the correct coordinates:
N60 00.AA8 E 10 43.BBB

To calculate use the following information:
Y = the year Skiforeningen was founded.

Then you can use a calculator and the fact that the cache is on an island in Store Åklungen to find the correct numbers:

BBB = (Y – 29) / 6
AA = x * x (i.e. AA is a square number, e.g. 5*5=25 but not 25 :)

Skiforeningen’s information about this track and the area

This is a winter cache. Summer access is possible, but the cache terrain rating would then be quite different.

The cache is a ca. 10 cm cylinder wrapped in black tape.

Its a rather exposed place for the cache. Please hide the box the best you can!
