Ambigrams are words, phrases, or numbers which are written in
such a way that they can be read in more than one direction.
Take a look at the word "dollop," for instance. If you rotate
that word 180°, it reads the same as it did before!
Now "dollop" is a rare word. Most of the time it requires some
creativity (on the part of the viewer and the creator) in order to
read an ambigram. Check out what Keith did, for example:
Ambigrams that require rotation are not the only kind. For
example, if you use a mirror to read the word "TOOTH" written
vertically in all capital letters as shown, it reads the same. Take
a look at this
example of a mirror ambigram in which the message in reflection
is quite different from the original!
