Θεριόσπηλιος
είναι
ένα μικρό σπήλαιο
βορειοδυτικά
από το Καβούσι
Ιεράπετρας πάνω
σε απότομη κι
ανεμοδαρμένη
πλαγιά.
Έχει
συνολικό μήκος
44μ, μέγιστο πλάτος
25μ και ύψος 0,5 –
7μ. Μετά την χαμηλή
είσοδο του
σπηλαίου, ανοίγεται
χαμηλός προθάλαμος
με διαστάσεις
7μ x8μ. Ακολουθεί
μια μεγάλη και
θεαματική αίθουσα
μήκους 37μ, πλάτους
25μ και ύψους 1,6
– 7μ. με κατηφορικό
δάπεδο. Είναι
πλούσια διακοσμημένη
και προκαλεί
εξαιρετική
εντύπωση η ύπαρξη
πολλών νυχτερίδων,
που ειδικά την
άνοιξη είναι
εκατοντάδες,
και οι αποθέσεις
γκουανό (κόπρανα
νυχτερίδων) που
είναι πολύ
μεγάλες.
Μικρές
και μεγάλες
στήλες είναι
διάσπαρτες
παντού, ενώ συγκροτήματα
από σταλαγμίτες
αποτελούν εξαίσια
σύνολα. Ένας
λευκός υψηλός
σταλαγμίτης
είναι μεγαλοπρεπής
και δυο μεγάλοι
σταλαγμίτες
έχουν σπάσει
και βρίσκονται
στο δάπεδο ο
ένας οριζόντια
και ο άλλος
με κλίση. Στο
βάθος αριστερά
της μεγάλης
αίθουσας
βρίσκεται φραγμένη
καταβώθρα, από
τη οποία έφευγαν
τα νερά όταν το
σπήλαιο ήταν
κοίτη υπογείου
ποταμού.»

και περπατάτε
μέσα στον κάμπο
με τους ελαιώνες
του μέχρι το
στάδιο «Trailhead:
Sign Post» είτε θα
πάτε με το αμάξι
ως το στάδιο
«Parking» σε
αρκετούς καλούς
χωματόδρομους
ακολουθώντας
τα στάδια WP1 με
WP4.
Στο
«Trailhead: Sign Post» στρίψτε
δεξιά όπως δείχνει
ο πίνακας στο
«Theriospilios». Ανεβείτε
στις στροφές
του αγροτικού
δρόμου πάνω στον
λόφο και μετά
κατεβείτε πιο
πέρα στο Στάδιο
1 «Stage 1». Από
το «Trailhead: Sign Post» θα
είναι 1.5 χμ. περίπου.

1 - Stage 1:
Στο
Στάδιο 1 θα βρείτε
τον αριθμό Z. Με
αυτό τον αριθμό
υπολογίστε
τις συντεταγμένες
του Σταδίου
2 έτσι:
X = Z +
44
Y = Z – 2
Οι
συντεταγμένες
του Σταδίου

Κατεβείτε
χωρίς μονοπάτι
την απόκρημνη πλαγιά
στο Στάδιο 2.
Στάδιο
2 - Stage 2:
Τώρα
στέκεστε μπροστά
από την είσοδο
του σπηλαίου.
Για
να περάσετε
την είσοδο του
σπηλαίου πρέπει
να σκύψετε αρκετά.
Όμως, μετά από
λίγα μέτρα
το ύψος θα είναι
καλά για να
στεκόσαστε.
Μην προσπαθείτε
να βρείτε την
κρύπτη αν σας
βασανίζει η
κλειστοφοβία!
Μην
πας μόνος σου
χωρίς παρέα!
Καθένας είναι
υπεύθυνος για
τον εαυτό του!
Αν
σας αρέσει κάτι
τέτοιο, σίγουρα
θα διασκεδάσετε.
Φέρτε
δυνατό φακό! Και
με τον
φακό
του κινητό σας
μπορείτε να
γράψετε την
ημερομηνία,
αλλά την
ομορφιά
του
σπηλαίου θα
την δείτε μόνο
με πιο δυνατό
φακό.
Φινάλε:
Μπείτε
στη σπηλιά και
μόλις μπορέσετε
να σταθείτε
όρθιοι (περίπου
8 μέτρα μετά την
είσοδο) θα
βρείτε το κουτί
δεξιά στον τοίχο
πίσω από πέτρες.
Δεν υπάρχει
σήμα GPS στο εσωτερικό
του. Αλλά σίγουρα
θα βρείτε το
κουτί, υπάρχουν
επίσης φωτογραφίες

“Theriospilios
is a small cave northwest of Kavoussi on a steep slope above the sea.
Visitors can reach the cave from Kavoussi after walking 40 minutes.
Theriospilios
has a total length of 44m, 25m maximum width and height 0,5 - 7m.
After the entrance of the cave, the visitor enters a low hall with
dimensions 7m x 8m. The following room is spectacular, with 37m
length, 25m width and 1.6-7m height, with sloping floor. It is richly
decorated and gives the visitor an excellent impression. Small and
large columns are scattered everywhere. Bands from stalagmites shape
an excellent complex. A white high stalagmite is magnificent. Two
stalagmites have been broken; the one is laid on the floor and the
other one is inclined. This phenomenon is rare and has caused the
interest of cavers. The far left of the hall is a blocked cesspool,
from which water flowed when the cavern was a river bed.”

Either
leave your car in Kavousi and walk through the olive groves to
waypoint „Trailhead: Sign Post“ or you may go by car
using the dirt roads to the given parking coordinates passing
waypoints WP1 through WP4.
At
waypoint „Trailhead: Sign Post“ the sign post directs you
into the righthand path to the cave „Theriospilios“.
Follow the winding dirt road upwards to the top of the hill and
further on down to Stage 1. From the sign post to Stage 1 it will be
about 1.5 km.
Stage 1:
At Stage 1 you will
find the number Z. Using Z you will calculate the coordinates of
Stage 2:

To
Stage 2 you have to descend the
steep slope without path.
Stage 2:
Now you are standing
in front of the cave entrance, through which you enter the cave.
bending low. After few metres, the cave opens into a large hall. I do
not recommend the whole thing for geocachers with claustrophobic
tendencies and definitely do not do it alone. And as always: everyone
has to know for themselves what is good for them.
If you enjoy something
like this, you will certainly have fun.
Don't
forget to bring your torch, even better if it is really strong. You
may manage as well with the torch of the smartphone. But only with a
really strong torch you will be able do admire the beautiful
structures within the cave.
Final:
Enter the cave and as
soon as you can stand up vertically (about 8 meters after the
entrance) you will find the box right hand side at the wall behind
stones. There is no GPS signal inside. But you will surely find the
box, there are also spoiler pictures!

„Theriospilios
ist eine kleine Höhle nordwestlich von Kavoussi an einem steilen
Hang über dem Meer.
Theriospilios hat
eine Gesamtlänge von 44m, 25m maximale Breite und Höhe 0,5
- 7m. Nach dem Eingang der Höhle betritt der Besucher eine
kleine Halle mit Abmessungen von 7m x 8m. Der folgende Raum ist
spektakulär, mit 37m Länge, 25m Breite und 1.6-7m Höhe,
mit abfallendem Boden. Sie ist reich verziert und gibt dem Besucher
einen hervorragenden Eindruck. Kleine und große Säulen
sind überall verstreut. Bänder von Stalagmiten bilden einen
ausgezeichneten Komplex. Ein weißer Hochstalagmit ist
großartig. Zwei Stalagmiten sind gebrochen; Der eine wurde auf
dem Boden gelegt und der andere wird geneigt. Dieses Phänomen
ist selten und hat das Interesse der Besucher verursacht. Die linke
von der Halle ist eine blockierte Grube, von der Wasser floss, als
die Höhle ein Flussbett war.”

und nun zum Geocache:
Lasst
Euer Auto entweder in Kavousi stehen und lauft durch die Ebene mit
den Olivenhainen zum Wegepunkt „Trailhead: Sign Post“
oder Ihr fahrt von Kavousi aus über die Wegepunkte WP1 bis WP4
auf einem ganz ordentlichen Feldweg zur angegebenen Parkmöglichkeit.
Am
Wegepunkt „Trailhead: Sign Post“ zeigt ein Wegweiser nach
rechts zur Höhle „Theriospilios“. Folgt dem
kurvenreichen Feldweg bergauf bis auf den Bergrücken und dann
wieder bergab bis Ihr nach etwa 1, 5 km bei Stage 1 ankommt.
Stage
1:
An Stage 1 findet Ihr
die Zahl Z. Mit dieser Zahl berechnet Ihr die Koordinaten der Stage 2
wie folgt:
X = Z + 44
Y = Z –
2
Stage-2-Koordinaten:
N35° 8.X E25° 50.Y
Weglos
geht es jetzt den steilen Hang hinunter zu Stage 2, wo Ihr vor
dem Höhleneingang stehen werdet.
Stage 2:
Jetzt
steht Ihr vor dem Höhleneingang, durch den Ihr tief gebückt
hinein in die Höhle kommt. Nach wenigen Metern öffnet sich
die Höhle zu einem großen Saal. Für Geocacher mit
klaustrophobischen Tendenzen empfehle ich das Ganze nicht und macht
es auf keinen Fall allein. Und wie immer: Jeder muss selbst wissen,
was für ihn gut ist.
Wem
so etwas Spass macht, der wird sicher seine Freude haben.
Ihr
benötigt eine Taschenlampe, je stärker desto besser. Mit
der Taschenlampe des Smartphones geht es zur Not auch, aber von der
Schönheit der Höhle seht Ihr wirklich etwas, nur wenn Ihr
eine stärkere Taschenlampe dabei habt.
Finale:
Krabbelt
in die Höhle hinein sobald Ihr senkrecht stehen könnt (etwa
8 Meter nach dem Eingang), finden Ihr die Dose rechts an der Wand
hinter Steinen. Im Inneren gibt es kein GPS-Signal. Aber Ihr werdet
die Dose sicher finden, es gibt auch Spoiler-Bilder!
