Renji Road was dramatically transformed in 2020, with motor vehicle access to Renmin Road cut off, and new paving and landscaping elements installed. It's a huge improvement, and the ground floor businesses have responded in kind, with new investment in more attractive shopfronts designed to attract the continuous and huge flows of passers-by on foot and by bike.
It's a frenetic area of commerce and movement, but, as usual, stepping into the alleyways (and in this cases slightly around the corner, out of sight from Renji Road) provides an instantaneous escape from the cacaphony of the main streets into a more secluded and quiet space, to the extent this is possible in such a densely built-up and active area.
The gateways are opened during the day but closed from 10PM to 6AM, and maps showing the local area are also provided.
