Situated between the flood plain to the north and what I will call a flood meadow. :)
I used to take my family here for picnics. There used to be shelters that were shaped somewhat like muchrooms. Those were torn down and a standard type of shelter installed. I miss the old shelters.
Flood Plain
A floodplain, or flood plain, is flat or nearly flat land adjacent to a stream or river that experiences occasional or periodic flooding. It includes the floodway, which consists of the stream channel and adjacent areas that carry flood flows, and the flood fringe, which are areas covered by the flood, but which do not experience a strong current.
Blah, blah, blah. :)
A flood plain has an immense value to communities bordering various waterways. It has the ability to take in the vast amounts of water during periodic flooding. The water comes rushing through sweeping away most of the debris laying around but also deposits things brought along from upriver often clustered around the bases of trees or against larger debris that happens to get wedged in it's journey down stream.
