The South County Trailway is a 14.1-mile (22.7 km) long trail stretching from Van Cortlandt Park in The Bronx to Elmsford in Westchester, NY. Construction started in the 1990s and was completed in 2011. Most sections of the trailway are paved. This was once the part of the New York Central Railroad system.
Poison Ivy is very common along this trail, but I did my best to avoid it.
The cache is a camoed micro container. The cache just off the path.
Up and down this trailway you will see what is essentially discarded industrial and construction surplus. You will find concrete structures, pipeline, steel beams, barrels, debris piles, and who knows what else. While I have a hard time believing that this was left here legally, nature has for the most part integrated these elements into the landscape and every now and again created a spot for a cache.
While placing this cache, I watched a rollerblader lose control and wipe out. I asked if he was ok. Apparently feeling macho he said he was fine and dismissed me. His bloody knees told a different story.
Parking is available at the posted coordinates.
