Geocache Description:

Memories of our trip to Fiji include a sandy beach and water of the most amazing turquiose color. Where could this best be re-created near our home?

In March, we made a trip to Beqa Island, Fiji, for a week of scuba diving and sun. Flying out of LAX the day that the US made the "window of opportunity/pre-emptive strike" against Iraq was a bit unnerving. However, all flights were uneventful, and Beqa Island was nothing short of remarkable. It has been said that Fijians are the friendliest people on earth and, in our opinion, this is absolutely true. Our Fijian dive guides, Seru and Epeli, will be in our hearts forever, as will all of the wonderful people of Lalati Village.

Beqa Island is beautiful. Very mountainous and incredibly lush with turquoise water and glorious sandy beaches. We placed this cache at a sandy beach that also has amazing turquoise water.

This cache is filled with things we brought home from Fiji and things that remind us of Fiji:

*a scented romance candle
*ceramic bird
*handmade paper from Fiji
*scuba diving sticker
*a dolphin pendant (we had amazing dolphin encounters)
*natural coconut mosquito lotion
*travel bags from Air Pacific (puts United to shame!)
*camo underwear (When a friend learned I was flying overseas with war appearing imminent, she gave me camo underwear to help me "fly safely under the radar". I packed them in my carry-on and all flights went without a hitch (on time, no turbulence, no lost bags, etc. I figure they must be blessed!)
and a First Finder's Award

We also managed to do one geo-cache in Fiji the day we flew home. We had a rather bewildered taxi driver take us to this overgrown area and had him wait while we went tromping through the jungle. Found the cache and emerged with Silly Cow, an udderly charming little gal who travelled to Fiji from England and now is making her first trip to the US. This is one bovine with lots of frequent flyer miles!

We couldn't get a very solid signal in the area where we hid the cache and the cache is well concealed, so we advise you use the hints! Start by looking for a dead and twisted madrone tree with its remaining trunk leaning against a tan oak.
