FYC - Caledon State Park #2 Traditional Geocache

The Chesapeake Bay, the great rivers that feed it, and the vast landscapes surrounding them are at the center of our nation’s story. The Find Your Chesapeake (FYC) GeoTour launched June 9, 2018 with over 60 caches within Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania. and Delaware. A trackable geocoin will be awarded to the first 300 geocachers, while supplies last, for locating at least 20 FYC caches. To be eligible for the coin, geocachers must download a passport from the Find Your Chesapeake GeoTour website. Geocachers must find and log at least 20 finds, record the code word from each cache on their passport. After discovering the 20 required caches, geocachers may have their passports validated via mail at the National Park Service, Chesapeake Bay Office located at 410 Severn Ave, Suite 314, Annapolis, MD 21403. Participating in the FYC GeoTour is fun and we hope that many people join in. However, it is not a requirement for logging your find on this cache once you find the container.

As many as 60 eagles have been spotted here on the bluffs overlooking the Potomac River. As a designated National Natural Landmark, the park provides a unique opportunity to view bald eagles. It is home to one of the largest concentrations of the bird on the East Coast during the summer. Walk over to the visitor center to learn more about the notorious bird, or hop on the Boyd’s Hole Trail and see how many you can spot when you reach the river at the end of the trail.

Caledon State Park is open from 8am until dusk. The entrance fee is $4 per vehicle. Start your journey for this geocache by using the trailhead coordinates and pick up the Hampstead Road Trail. This trail takes you to the cache and to Stuart's Wharf.

Please be aware that finding the two FYC caches will require a 7 mile round trip walk. You will pass several more geocaches along the way.
