Geocache Description:

The 5th Annual
Sheridan Park CITO Sunday April 22, 2018
Shelter at Picnic Area #1
1:00 pm to 3:30 pm

"Changing the world starts by changing your own little corner of it."

Each year, Earth Day - April 22 - marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement, which this year happens to conveniently fall on a Sunday.

Founded in 1970, Earth Day is now a globally celebrated holiday with millions of participants in 192 countries. It is a part of what is now known as Earth Week, a full seven days of events focused on environmental awareness.

As the largest civic-focused day of action in the world, people clean up their parks, towns, and roads, they plant trees, remove invasive plant species, engage in habitat restoration, and make our world a better place to live. We hope you can join in on the 48th anniversary of Earth Day by helping to pick up trash throughout Sheridan Park with provided trash bags. (Please bring your own gloves, if desired.) We will also have a limited number of designated areas in the park for those who prefer assigned areas.

As in previous years, there will be a brief raffle with several items at the conclusion of the event.

We will have water and snacks. If you would like to bring a snack or beverage to share, that would be wonderful.

There are a number of existing caches that are available at or near the park. To keep with the CITO theme and intention, our focus for this event will be on trash pick up.

Cache In Trash Out is an ongoing environmental initiative supported by the worldwide geocaching community. Since 2002, geocachers around the world have been dedicated to improving parks and other cache-friendly places. Through these volunteer efforts, we help preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor resources!

In honor of Earth Day, Geocaching.com is adding a 2018 CITO souvenir to the geocaching profile of each person who logs an "attended" for a CITO event held on April 21 through April 29.
