Binary Blackout

The name for this cache gives an idea of what you will be looking for. I've used two different colours of reflectors to encode the location of the cache in binary. The blackout part of the name comes from the fact that the reflectors are small thumbtacks set into trees well back from the trail. They're almost impossible to find in the daytime, but a flashlight makes them stand out very well in the blackness of the night. There are ten sets of reflectors set up along the trail west of the posted coordinates. Five sets on each side of the trail encode the digits for the minutes of the cache location. The final is not too far away, so the coordinate degrees are latitude N43° and W79° for the longitude. The reflector sets on the left (south) side of the trail give the longitude minutes, the sets on the right (north) give the latitude minutes. Each digit is encoded as a set of four reflectors. The white reflectors represent bits that are 0, and the red reflectors are 1. For those who can't do binary to decimal conversions in their head, here's a handy translation key.

As a check, the sum of the digits in the latitude is 19, and the sum of the longitude digits is 27.

The parking coordinates given are along 8th line. This section of road is closed to vehicles in the wintertime, so the alternate set of coordinates are given as well. When using the alternate set of coordinates, walk down the closed roadway to the primary parking coordinates, and follow the trail from there. Those with trail maps of the area will note a possible alternate access point. I do NOT recommend using that access point as the trail from there is very treacherous footing, especially at night.,
