This is one of a series of 5 caches that make up the "Horace Greeley History Hunt 2.0" created by the New Castle Historical Society, located in Chappaqua, NY, to promote interest in local history and awareness of our town’s remarkable open land. All 5 will be logged separately. In each of the first 4 (found in any order you wish), you will find a clue in the form of a token. Take 1 token from each. Once you have them all, you will be able to find the fifth, bonus cache.
Pinecliff Sanctuary is 7 acres at the end of Pinecliff Road in the middle of Chappaqua. There are three loops which meander through a red maple swamp, circle two ponds and proceed along an upland wood. A unique feature of the Ridge Walk is a handsome rock formation of gneiss rock at the top of the northern most hills. One quarter of a mile is wheelchair accessible along a boardwalk.
In 1969 the Stern and Arleo families donated the land to New Castle Land Conservancy that is now the Pinecliff Sanctuary. In 1975 the NCLC merged with the Saw Mill River Audubon Society which continues to manage the property.
This is a relatively simple find. You will be searching for a small container. Please be aware of muggles and plan your find accordingly! Please: Each team take only one token!
