Geocache Description:

A webcam geocache accessible by boat excursion from Copenhagen.

This is an interesting excursion from Copenhagen. When this was published, it was the only operational Webcam geocache in Denmark - now there are about 5 of them. (visit link)

The Middelgrundsfortet naval fort is an ancient, more than 100 years old, military fort located on a man-made island in the ocean off Copenhagen. Until recently, this was the World's largest man-made island. No longer owned and operated by the military, anyone can now visit the old fort by regular boat connection from downtown Copenhagen. It is a most interesting excursion which is highly recommended. Please see further details at (visit link) . Boats depart from Nyhavn 71 (N 55 40.757 E012 35.612), about 10 minutes walk from Kongens Nytorv in central Copenhagen. Call 33 33 93 55 for sailing schedule. The ticket cost is 90 DKR total per person. The 6,4 km crossing takes 30 minutes. Note that the restaurants on the island are fairly expensive.

The webcam is located near the ferry arrival point on the island. To see pictures from the webcam, do the following:
1) go to (visit link)
2) select "galleri"
3) select "web-cams"
4) click on webcam 2

The webcam picture seems to update approx. once every 10 seconds. You may have to hit the "F5" button to update it manually.

In order to log this cache, you must do the following:
1) Prepare a poster or banner wich must include the word "GEOCACHING". The letters must be large enough to be readable on the webcam picture. The one I used has 12 cm tall letters (that's a 475 points typeface in Word).
2) Team up with a friend who stays at home and has an internet-connected computer and a phone.
3) Get to the webcam (by boat), call your friend on your cellular phone, pose with the poster and have your friend copy the webcam picture on his screen to a file.
4) When you get home, upload the saved picture as proof that you were there.

The following procedure seemed to work best to copy the picture from the webcam to a file:
1) Press [shift]-[PrtSc]
2) Open MS Paint (Start > All programms > Ascessories > Paint)
3) Press [Ctrl]- to insert the copied picture
4) Save the picture. You may want to cut it so that only the webcam picture is shown.

I hope you'll enjoy an excellent excursion to the old fort!

Admin note: As the quality of the picture of this web cam is not the best, get even closer to the camera than on the example photo on this page, i.e. to the very bottom of the picture, so that you can show your face and hold your hand up with your GPS-receiver!
