The cache is hidden at the end of a trail in the El Sereno Open Space Preserve. From here you get a nice view of Lexington, and the trail includes many spectacular scenic vistas of the South Bay.
Now, you get a great view of the bay because there are NO trees to obscure it, as you descend almost 1200' from the ridge to the cache. The total round-trip is 7.4 miles, and 3 miles of the return trip is straight back up in full sun! So bring water, and consider hiking as I did, in early morning. The trail is very popular with bikers (The day I placed this, there was a team training for a challenging course in Moab). Allow about 2-2.5 hours for the hike.
All the above is just so you'll be prepared. I really did enjoy this hike, and saw several side trails that would be great spots for caches as well... so bring an ammo can and explore!
Take Montevina Rd. in to the trailhead. There is parking for a couple of cars nearby. You will be able to pick up a couple of other caches on the way in (at the time of placement: Hairpin Micro View, Hairpin View).
The cache is an ammo can, hidden just a short way off the trail.
