Geocache Description:

Celebrating the 10th anniversary of geocaching as we know and love it in the Blackstone Valley. Get together with some other Southern New England geocachers to share your most recent adventures and start your May geo-activities with new and older friends. You may choose to join the group for a traditional Rhode Island breakfast before hitting the trails for a day of caching across Providence County.

TRADITIONAL MAY BREAKFAST
Saturday, May 1st, 2010, 10 am - 11 am
Along the banks of the Blackstone River
555 Roosevelt Ave, Central Falls, RI

May Breakfast has been a unique Rhode Island tradition since 1867 with communities getting together to break bread and discuss their plans for the emerging season. Some towns typically observe May 1st, similar to the English May Day, while others celebrate on May 4th, Rhode Island’s day of Independence from British rule, and some use the days in between.

On Saturday May 1st, 2010, at about 10am we will meet and eat, however the breakfast for community starts earlier, but we as a group are targeting for the last seating sometime around 10:30am and to be served, you must be on site before 11am. The menu includes buttermilk pancakes, sausage, coffee and orange juice. Adults $8.00; children 12 and under $5.00.

There will be a group photo near the posted coordinates at about 10:10am for those that arrive by that time and another group photo soon after 11am along the river walk with the falls in the background. If you are not eating, join us for the photo opportunity.

The morning event will be held outside, weather permitting, along the banks of the Blackstone River adjacent to the Central Falls dam and the site of the historic mill buildings dating to the 1800's. The riverfront has recently been cleaned up and adaptive reuse of some of the factory buildings for residential use. Posted coordinates are to access the site through The M at 555 Roosevelt Avenue, Central Falls RI. If case of inclement weather, the meal will be served inside at a nearby church hall at the Chinese Christian Church of Rhode Island, 333 Roosevelt Ave, Pawtucket, RI (alternate coordinates will be added).

"Cherry Tree Lane" Central Falls/Pawtucket is the most recent addition to the list of Rhode Island communities to host one of these traditional May Breakfast and coincides with the Rhode Island Cherry Blossom Festival. This may be the first May Breakfast to be held outdoors in many decades and may be the start of a new tradition.

For the last few years, similar geo meet and eat events were held with successful turnouts, so that we are once again keeping the tradition going this year, by using another Town and venue to meet at. We are also taking advantage of the fact that May Day falls on a Saturday and this Breakfast is occurring within a nationally significant historic district.

What could be a better way to celebrate Geocaching's 10th birthday than to have a double header with a Picnic Lunch event in Bristol (GC25G75). Make a day of it!
