Above this village, at village cemetery, stands a, other church, St. Alexander. Nowhere in Macedonia you’ll find on other church dedicated to St. Alexander! And actually here, on this hill, begins an Odyssey with different actors. Let’s find out, what legend says: once upon a time, in a near hamlet lived a virgin of unusual beauty and kindness, called Bela Itsa (White Itsa). Every day she used to go to a spring for water. One day she saw a big group of tired, dusty soldiers, resting around the spring. She offered the jug with water to the man who seemed to be a leader. And he was Alexander the Great, resting with his troops before marching east to another war. He felt in love with her immediately and asked her to marry him. However, her father would give her to the emperor only when he’d return from the war. Alexander agreed and Bela Itsa started her waiting and watching for her Alexander. And years passed, Bela Itsa got old, but she faithfully every day climbed the hill to watch for her lover… One night, somebody nocked on her door. A stranger brought a purse of gold and a word to her: Alexander is dead, do not wait for him any longer, beautiful, old Bela Itsa. The old woman, for the gold, which brought the messenger, built on the hill a small church named St. Alexander. And people called the hamlet, where she lived and died waiting for her Odyssey, Belitsa.
