Geocache Description:

Located near historic Ft. Osage, in Jackson County Missouri.
Fairly level ground on cleared path, most of the way.

This cache is located on the perimeter of historic Ft. Osage in Jackson County Missouri. In 1808, under the direction of William Clark, joint commander of the Lewis and Clark expedition, and Cpt. Eli B. Clemson, soldiers erected the fort to serve several purposes. First and formost it was an outpost in the newly acquired Louisiana Purchase, housing soldiers to guard the new territory and to protect the United States Factory Trade House, also located there. The fort also aided the American government in befriending the area's Osage Indians. Finally, the fort offered Missouri's early settlers and explorers a sanctuary from which to venture westward. The fort has been restored as it appeared in 1812.

The cache has been approved by the Jackson County Parks and Recreation Historic Sites manager Jacquelyn Luongo. Please obey "Restricted Area" signs. The area can be muddy after a rain or winter thaw.
