Geocache Description:

Final Resting Place for Jefferson Davis.

"Civil war has only horror for me, but whatever circumstances demand shall be met as a duty."
-Jefferson Davis, January 20, 1861

Seventh in a series of little known Civil War sites around Virginia. Jefferson Davis- West Point Cadet, Mexican War Veteran, US Representative, US Senator, US Secretary of War, and, last but not least, President of the Confederate States of America.

Jefferson Davis died December 6, 1889, and was buried in Metairie Cemetery near New Orleans, Louisiana. His body was moved to this spot in 1893. No hike required to locate this site but I recommend a hike anyway. There are many more interesting sites nearby.

A wealth of biographical information on Jefferson Davis can be found at www.jeffersondavis.net.

Prove you found it! Email me the name of the prominent Civil War General buried in the far opposite end of the cemetery. No internet "finds" please - explore the cemetery!

Note: cemetery closes at dark.
