New Macy Micro (nano) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

New York Admin: I just spoke with Westchester County Parks Dept and was told Macy park is not scheduled to reopen until Spring 2010. This cache has already been disabled far to long with another year before the park will open.

I'm archiving this one. Please feel free to submit a new listing next year when the park reopens.

Geocache Description:

This cache is in V.E. Macy Park, Route 9A in Ardsley. It is a pretty flat park. There are babraque grills scattered about & some under a covered pavallion.. There is a playground & lots of room to run/paly

This is LOG ONLY NOT even room for a pencil & please put the log back w/ the clip so the next can get the log out.

BEWARE ... The park will be full of people at times ... USE STEALTH !

People play soccer & Volley ball (goal posts & nets are there). There is also softball field.

They do charge to park (fees posted), daily between May and September. A Westchester County Parks Pass is required. The rest of the year parking is not an issue.

You can park in one of the two shopping area across the Road (9A) & walk to the park without paying or needing a pass.

The strip malls are connected, & if park at the first one going north (second going south) by the Ardsley Post Office you will be closer to a safe place to cross & to the cache.

9A is a major 2 lane road so PLEASE BE CAREFUL crossing it - especially w/ small children. It can look quiet but cars do seem to come out or nowhere sometimes.

The Previous "Macy Micro" was a 35mm film canister that was at the water's edge. Those who did look for it, find it or not, know exactly what that means. The problem was till 20-25 years the Village of Ardsley just south of Macy Park would flood.

The solution was w/ federal help & funding the Army Corps of engineer's did a flood control project. I am sure w/ out it the Village would have been under significant water more the once w/ the rain we had in March & April (2007).

This project channels the rain run off & rising Sawmill River INTO Macy Park as the flood plane. The Village No longer floods, however Macy Park becomes Macy "Lake" a lot bigger then in the past.

That all said the old cache was archived cause it got washed away. I am now putting in a new micro (Nano LOG ONLY NOT even room for a pencil). The new one is far enough away that I believe if the old one was still in "it's spot", this one might be approved being "just" far enough away.

It still near the water's edge, BUT now high enough not to be affected by flooding.

As the summer progresses ground growth might make it hard to get to, IF so I can adjust the actual spot a bit.
