According to local geocache expert "just B0B" - this is the oldest continuously active cache in the state of Alabama! I originally placed the cache back in January 2001, just a couple weeks after one was placed in Trussville, AL. I'm told the Trussville cache has "been archived at least once, relocated 3 times and adopted over to a new owner twice." But who's keeping track?? :)
The geocache site is in southeast Huntsville near Four Mile Post Road. Take standard precautions for hiking in the woods.
Rocket City Geocache original content:
1 Log book and pencil
4 Strands of Mardi Gras beads
1 Phillips screw driver
1 Small metal bell
1 Small wrench set
1 Halloween witch finger
1 Two inch PC speaker
1 12V, 3-inch PC cooling fan
1 Cracker Jack whistle
1 Cracker Jack sailor figure
1 Microsoft Solutions Tour CD
1 Digital Road Map for Windows NT CD
1 Cup insulator
1 McDonald's toy
and finally and most appropriately,
1 Jeff Foxworthy "Games Rednecks Play" CD
Revisited cache 12/22/02 and replaced the container, the old one had been chewed on. Left unopened bottled of brake fluid and one good AA battery, took nothing.
We revisited the cache again on 2/13/2010 and salvaged some of the old geocache content and some of the old log. I will return to the cache again with a new log containing the old log pages I saved. We cleaned up the mess and replaced the container, the previous one was ransacked by an animal sometime between Thanksgiving 2009 and January 2010.
We revisited the cache again on 1/16/2015 to add a new log book. I still have the pages saved from the original log book but have not taken the time to get them in order and back into the cache box. There is a spiral log book in the cache now as well as the old folded log. Plenty of room for writing now. Eventually I plan to get all the logs condensed into one book, may be a project for the kids one day...
