Let's learn some history and enjoy some food and fun.

In WW I the 147th (1st Grey) Canadian Infantry Battalion
took part in the Third Battle of Ypres (Wipers)

100 year Anniversary

During the First World War, my Grandpa Howell served in the Signal Corps of the 147th (1st Grey) Battalion. After winning the battle at Vimy Ridge in April 1917, the corps went on to Lens, France to take Hill 70 in August 1917 and then into Beligum to Passchendaele in October 1917.

At the beginning of the war, Canada had a total population of 7,879,000, and 630,000 of them served in uniform. 60,661 Canadians were killed, and another 172,000 were wounded.

A hundred years ago, my Grandfather was setting up telephone lines between the muddy trenches west of the Belgian town of Passchendaele in Flanders province, and 3 days before the assault, he was caught in a mustard gas attack. He survived, but with significant lung damage and spent the next 6 months in hospital, before returning to the battalion, and finally coming back home to Owen Sound in January 1919.

Now, on the 100th anniversary of this significant battle, we gather to remember what they did, and enjoy some of the benefits of their sacrifice.

We have reserved seating in Joe Tomato's back party room. Everyone is welcome, and the room can hold up to 48 people, so please indicate the number in your group when you log your "will-attend".
We are planning a great time with food, talk and fun. We will discuss geocaching, swap stories, trade or discover Travel Bugs, Geocoins, Geotags, etc. We will also be celebrating RickOnTheRange's Decennial by Sestercentennial (MMD) cache milestone and his Golden Diamond (LXXV) cache hide. No gifts Please.

This is definitely a high traffic area, but stealth is not required and we are all welcome, including your muggle friends and family. As well, there will be separate checks if you choose to order something from the menu.
