Geocache Description:

Welcome to Ewing Manor, on the northwest corner of Emerson Street and Towanda Avenue. Ewing Manor overlooks the surrounding community of Bloomington, Illinois. The Manor stands as a romantic tribute to a bygone era and remarkable spirit and foresight of its namesakes, Davis and Hazle Buck Ewing.

Designer Phil Hooten, working closely with the Ewings, incorporated French-inspired detailing and English functionalism into the Channel-Norman residence. The revival design style centered on the theory and the charm of a country property could be attributed to the presence of animals as well as human occupants. The style of architecture was very much in keeping with Hazle's lifelong concern for nurturing the environment and maintaining all that was natural.

The Ewing residence originally belonged to Davis and Hazle Buck Ewing. The residence was built between 1928 to 1929 after the couple returned from a trip around the world. This year-long trip was the inspiration of many of designs in the residence.

The Gardens are open daily and you are allowed to walk the path that goes around the manor. Please do so. I think you will enjoy the veiws of the grounds and the manor. Parking is across the street at St John's Church.

To claim a find on this Virtual Cache, go to the posted coordinates which takes you to a Rose Compass, and post a picture (face is optional or a picture of your GPS device)  with the manor in the background, or post a picture of you pointing at the manor in some manner. Use your imagination.  You can also post a picture of a piece of paper with your geocaching name on it, with the manor in the background if you wish.

If for some reason the main gate is closed (it shouldn't be) you can post like above from the gate.

And don't forget, Manors maketh man.

I hope you enjoy this Bloomington site.
