Geocache Description:

Alsume’s 17th cache takes you to a location celebrating Victoria’s political history. It showcases lifesize bronze statues of Victorian Premiers who served for more than 3000 consecutive days. The tradition was started by Jeff Kennett (Premier 1992 – 1999). Sadly for Premier Kennett, he was “Jeffed” by the Victorian public at the 1999 election and fell short of qualifying for a statue of his own. His successor Steve Bracks (Premier 1999 – 2007) also fell just short of 3000 days when he left politics. Only four premiers qualified, so the statues at the site are of: Albert Dunstan (33rd Premier of Victoria from 2 April 1935 to 14 September 1943 and again from 18 September 1943 to 2 October 1945 (after a minority Government headed by John Cain Snr governed for only 5 days)) Sir Henry Bolte (38th and longest serving Premier of Victoria from 1955 to 1972) Sir Rupert Hamer (39th Premier of Victoria from 1972-1981) John Cain jnr (41st Premier of Victoria from 1982 to 1990) The hard luck story goes to the 5th Premier James McCulloch who also served over 3,000 days between 1863 and 1877. Unfortunately, he didn't serve consecutive terms, failing Jeff Kennett's criteria for a bronze statue! The headline coordinates place you in front of the statue of Sir Rupert Hamer. The other statues are all close by, with Bolte and Dunstan together at S 37 48.799 E 144 58.508 and Cain at S37 48.789 E 144 58.520. The cache is located nearby at S 37 48.XXX E 144 58.YYY, Where XXX and YYY are found by adding www and vvv to the South and East header coordinates respectively. www= Number of button holes without a button in the front of Hamer’s jacket plus 29 times the number of buttons on the front of Dunstan’s coat and vvv= 10 times the number of hands the four Premiers collectively have in their pockets, minus 6 times the number of Premiers with a handkerchief in their top pocket, plus the number of buttons on the front of Dunstan’s coat, and finally minus twice the number of garden fittings in the ground immediately behind Hamer’s statue. The cache is a 200ml Sistema. You will need to bring your own pen. You may want to allow some time for a wander around the magnificent Treasury Gardens while you are there.
