Port Lotniczy Warszawa/Modlin (kod IATA: WMI, kod ICAO: EPMO) – międzynarodowy port lotniczy w Nowym Dworze Mazowieckim, drugi dla aglomeracji warszawskiej, zlokalizowany około 35 km na północny zachód od granicy śródmieścia Warszawy. Lotnisko obsługuje loty rejsowe krótkiego i średniego zasięgu tanich linii lotniczych do miast europejskich, loty krajowe i rejsy czarterowe.
Obecnie na lotnisku operuje jedna linia lotnicza – Ryanair, realizująca regularne połączenia do 49 europejskich miast. Lotnisko od maja 2014 roku posiada drugą kategorię systemu nawigacji ILS.
Historia lotniska
Początki lotniska Modlin podobno sięgają 1937 roku, gdy poligon jednostek pancernych stacjonujących w Twierdzy Modlin został utwardzony przez Ligę Obrony Powietrznej i Przeciwgazowej. W 1940 roku rozpoczęła się budowa lotniska wojskowego przez Niemców. W latach 1944-1945 w Modlinie stacjonował 47 Korpus Armii Radzieckiej. Lotnisko przekazano wojsku polskiemu i w latach 1949-1953 je zmodernizowano, budując hangary, nowy pas startowy dla najcięższych samolotów, a także schrony dla samolotów i ich obsługi.
W latach 1953-1959 Lotnisko Modlin było bazą 15 Dywizji Lotnictwa Bombowego, ale faktycznie była to tylko baza magazynowa i szkoleniowa. Następnie stacjonował tu 38 Lotniczy Pułk Szkolno-Bojowy (38 lpszb) w latach 1956–1958 i 1974-1988, przy czym w latach 1958-1959 działał jako Wyższa Szkoła Pilotów (WSPil.), przemianowana na istniejące tu w latach 1960-1974 Centrum Szkolenia Lotniczego. W 1976 powstała tu także 45 Lotnicza Eskadra Doświadczalna (45 led), rozformowana w 1999. W 1999 bazę przekazano przez Ministerstwo Obrony Narodowej na majątek Agencji Mienia Wojskowego.
Porozumienie o budowie tu lotniska cywilnego podpisano w 2005 roku. Budowa cywilnego lotniska rozpoczęła się z opóźnieniem z uwagi na brak jednomyślności oraz zmiany wśród udziałowców. Lotnisko wpisane do rejestru lotnisk cywilnych w 2010 otwarto w lipcu 2012 - 2 tygodnie po Mistrzostwach Europy w Piłce Nożnej 2012, a które lotnisko miało już obsługiwać. Już w grudniu 2012 lotnisko zostało zamknięte z powodu usterek wynikłych z remontu pasa startowego i z uwagi na procedury reklamacji otwarto je ponownie 30 czerwca 2013. 16 lipca 2019 port lotniczy obsłużył 16-milionowego pasażera.
Rozwój portu lotniczego jest obecnie wstrzymany w związku z rządowymi planami budowy Centralnego Portu Komunikacyjnego w Baranowie (2017) oraz modernizacją portu lotniczego Radom-Sadków, znanego obecnie jako Warszawa Radom (2019-2020). Zaplanowana bocznica kolejowa i stacja przy lotnisku nie zostały zrealizowane od 2012 i dowóz do lotniska odbywa się autobusem ze stacji kolejowej Modlin albo z Warszawy. Zablokowano także budowę drugiego terminala.

Airport Warszawa / Modlin (IATA code: WMI, ICAO code: EPMO) - the international airport in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki, the second for the Warsaw agglomeration, located about 35 km northwest of the city center border. The airport serves short- and medium-haul flights of low cost airlines to European cities, domestic flights and charter flights.
Currently, there is one airline at the airport - Ryanair, with regular connections to 49 European cities. The airport since May 2014 has a second category of ILS navigation system.
Airport History
The beginnings of the Modlin airfield go back to 1937, when the training ground for armored units stationed in the Modlin Fortress was hardened by the Air and Gas Defense League members. In 1940, the construction of a military airfield by the Germans began. In the years 1944-1945 the 47 Corps of the Soviet Army was stationed in Modlin. The airfield was handed over to the Polish army and in the years 1949-1953 it was modernized by building hangars, a new runway for the heaviest planes, as well as shelters for planes and their service.
In the years 1953-1959 the Modlin airfield was the base of the 15th Air Bomber Division, but in fact it was only a warehouse and training base. Then stationed 38th Air Training and Combat Regiment (38 lpszb) between 1956–1958 and 1974-1988, while in the years 1958-1959 it operated here as the Highschool of Pilots (WSPil.), then renamed into the Center of Aviation Training existing there between 1960-1974. In 1976, the 45th Air Experimental Squadron (45 led) was also formed here, deformed in 1999. In 1999, the base was transferred by the Ministry of National Defense to the property of the Military Property Agency.
The agreement on the construction of a civil airport here was signed in 2005. The construction of a civil airport started late due to lack of unanimity and changes among shareholders. The airport entered in the register of civil airports in 2010 and was opened in July 2012 - at least 2 weeks too late after the European Football Championship 2012, which airport should be serving. Already in December 2012, the airport was closed due to defects resulting from the renovation of the runway and due to complaint procedures they were re-opened on June 30, 2013. On July 16, 2019, the airport served a 16-million passenger.
The development of the airport is currently suspended due to government plans to build the Central Communication Port in Baranów (2017) and the modernization of the Radom-Sadków airport, now known as Warsaw Radom (2019-2020). The planned railway siding and station at the airport have not been built since 2012 and the delivery to the airport is by bus from the Modlin railway station or from Warsaw. The construction of the second terminal was also blocked.
