Geocache Description:

A four mile hike (round trip) allow 2-3 hours, over some rocky paths, boggy in places.

Parking - National Park Authority car park at Buttermere behind the Fish Hotel or further up the road by the church. Walk along the path towards Sour Milk Gill looking out for the sign post to the right for Scale Force.

Scale Force lies to the south of Crummock Water (Lake of the Crooked River), near the village of Buttermere and described by William Wordsworth as 'a fine chasm, with a lofty, though but slender, fall of water'. It is the highest waterfall in the Lake District with a single fall of around 120 feet. The waterfall - or ’force’ - totals about 170 feet and is hidden in a deep, tree-lined gorge, perpendicular except where it flushes over a small jut. 'The steep on both sides is covered with a variety of moss, fern ash and oak and flourish in indescribable verdure. Though wet with spray you can't help feeling the solemnity of this deep, musical abyss, enchanting as verdure and melody can make it'.

Cache contains usual swaps - Enjoy!
