Geocache Description:

A beautiful park named after one of Goolwa's great gentlemen.

Murray Smith has been a popular and well-respected resident of Goolwa for 62 years.

His caring and giving nature has allowed him to make many friends throughout the community and his love of sport in the district has seen him become a life member of the Goolwa Football and Tennis Clubs and an honourary member of the Goolwa Cricket and Netball Clubs.

In 1995 Murray was recognised by the community of Goolwa for 50 years of dedicated and loyal service to the town with the unveiling of the “Murray Smith Park” behind the town oval.

Having the park named after him was something Murray took great pride in.

“Being acknowledged like that is truly something that I will never forget.”

Murray passed away several years ago and his ashes are interred at the park.

There are electric BBQ's at the park and it is a nice place to sit and admire the lake and for children to play on the grass. Often on weekends there are model boats on the lake. The original Goolwa Railway track runs along side the park and there is a plaque commemorating the railway track.

You are looking for a black clip-lock container. Please don't push it too far back when replacing it as the next geocacher will not be able to retrieve it.
