We came upon this place by accident and never knew where it got
it's name. Apparently, this land was set aside in memory of a young
man who passed away. His name was Nathaniel Marquez, a graduate of
Frederick High School. On a website dedicated to him, his parents
invite anyone who wishes to help keep the area litter-free to
visit. They tell a story of how he organized a huge reclamation
project that returned the area to pristine wilderness. Since then,
much trash (mostly from teenagers who hang out there) has
accumulated.
Please consider this an invitation to CITO!
Park near the boulder bearing the name of the location
(pictured). Follow the trail behind it back into the woods.
When you approach the stone chimney, look to your right and find
a set of stone stairs. Use these to get up onto the ridge.
Bushwacking is difficult, as terrain is uneven, and heavy leaf
deposits hide uneven spots.
Please keep in mind that teenagers do frequent this area and it
has no parent supervision. While it is HIGHly unlikely that
they will muggle the cache, their activities may be inappropriate
(illegal), if you catch my drift. I would prefer that a cacher have
this knowledge so that they may bring a friend (or leave the
kiddies at home for this one) if they so choose.
The cache is labeled on the outside with a geocaching sticker
and contains a log book, pen, info sheet and swag bag. We plan to
keep the swag bag well-stocked. Let us know if it is running
low.
