Geocache Description:


The Aldbrough Anglican parish church is dedicated to St Bartholomew. Dating from the second half of the 14th century, It is a Grade II* listed building. On an interior wall (over a pillar of the south nave aisle) is a pre-conquest era sundial, bearing an inscription in mixed Anglo-Saxon and Old Norse: +VLF LET (?HET) AROERAN CYRICE FOR HANVM ⁊ FOR GVWARA SAVLA usually translated as "Ulf had this church built for his own sake and for Gunnvor's soul."
