Sortland, også kjent som den blå byen, har fortsatt litt igjen å gå før det meste er blått. Etter min mening blir det ikke ordentlig "blåby" før både kirka og brua er malt i blått.
Kirka er ei lang korskirke i tre i nygotisk stil. Byggingen begynte i 1899 og kirka ble innviet 26. juli 1901. Den gamle kirka på stedet ble revet i 1902, og var trolig bygd i 1776. Tårnet fra den gamle kirka er bevart, og står i dag ved inngangen til minnelunden på den gamle kirketomta

Sortland, known as "the blue city", still has some distance to cover until it's all blue. In my opinion it will not be "the blue city" for real, until both the curch and the bridge are painted blue.
The church is built in new gothic style, and was inaugurated in 1901. The old church in Sortland was tore down in 1902 (and was probably built in 1776). The old church tower was preserved and is now serving as the entrance to the old memorial ground.
