Geocache Description:

At 11:50am on the 15th of October, 1970 a span of the new bridge under construction fell to the earth, taking with it the lives of 35 workers.

A Memorial Plaque was paid for and erected by bridge workers and unveiled on 15th of October, 1978, and the Memorial Park was opened on the 15th of October, 2004. This was the 34th anniversary of the disaster, and aims to increase awareness in the community of workplace accidents. Walking along the south side there is a series of stone blocks. Each stone block represents a worker that was killed. More information can be found at http://www.westgatebridge.org The cache: For some reason the GPS signals are awful, there seems to be something large blocking the satellites. Despite this, the cache is not hard to find. You don't have to leave the platform. So, no walking on the carefully manicured lawns. You don't have to be gorilla, even Shelly will be able to reach the cache. Just one thing, it clings like a four year old at the first day at school.
