South Shore 2024 Spring CITO Cleanup

Highway 103 - Exit 11 Carpool Parking Lot
Saturday, April 27, 2p.m.-3p.m.
Rain Date: Sunday, April 28, 2p.m.-3p.m.

PLEASE NOTE THE LOCATION CHANGE!

When originally published I was going to clean the Exit 13 parking lot, but another group beat me to it, so I'm moving the cleanup to the Exit 11 lot.

With the disappearance of the snow it's time for CITO season, so come out as we work to get rid of more than a BIT of garbage.

We will clean up the area around the carpool parking lot at Exit 11. As per CITO guidelines the event is scheduled for one hour in length, but it may take less time given it is not a large area (though the amount of trash and bushes in the area may slow progress). If we finish cleaning early people are welcome to hang out and socialize. Garbage bags and rubber gloves will be provided, but please bring your own work gloves since I won't have enough for everyone. Any children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

There will be an optional log to sign and some "out"door prizes. If there is heavy rain forecast for the afternoon the cleanup will be bumped to Sunday, or the following week if the whole weekend is a washout. Any change in the day/time will be announced on Friday here on the event listing and on Facebook.

In order to make sure everyone stays safe during the clean up, please note:
  • You should wear closed toe shoes to protect your feet.
  • Any children must be supervised by a parent/guardian to make sure they don't try to pick up anything better left for an adult to handle.
  • Make sure your work gloves are suitable for picking up garbage.
  • There will be two boxes for recyclables, a bucket for any broken glass or sharp objects that shouldn't go in a garbage bag, and a sharps container if any needles are found (which has happened in the past).
More instructions regarding safety will be given at the event. You can read advice on cleanup procedures from Clean Nova Scotia here.

Hope to see you at the CITO!
