When the Canadian Northern Railway came through the prairies, it helped to populate the province with new immigrants and created an alphabet of small towns. Along the rails, towns were named in alphabetical order and even had one town named after the original name of the original rail company. The CNR gave name to Canora Sask. using the first 2 letters of each word in it's name.
The stretch of rail lines from Regina to Stoughton used to be the world's longest stretch of dead-straight railway track, but now second only to the Trans-Australian Railway.
