BACKGROUND:
Amongst Houston's many fine city parks, Bell Park remains a
special jewel. Voted "Best Park" in the 2002 Houston Press
"Best Of Houston" edition, this small parcel lies just north of
Hermann Park and the Museum District. Highlights include tranquil
waterfalls, splashing fountains, quaint wooden bridges and
well-manicured flower beds. The centerpiece, however, remains the
bronze sculpture of Christopher Columbus, donated to the City of
Houston by the Federation of Italian-American Associations of
Greater Houston in October 1992 to mark the 500th Anniversary of
the "Discovery of America."
