円形花壇は、今上天皇が皇太子の時に、成婚記念に作られ、大きな花壇が回転するようになっています。

この近くに、大阪城長興寺焔硝蔵場跡があります。

（説明文）

この付近一帯には、昔大阪城の焔硝蔵場（火薬庫）がありました。
豊島郡誌によると「寺内村の北の丘に火薬庫あり、享保18年（1733年）に府城の火薬を此れに移し、下司３戸あり、これを守る。」とあり又大阪城誌には「長興寺焔硝蔵場、此成ノ北方三里余、倉庫員数其他共未詳」とあり、長興寺村に焔硝蔵（火薬庫）が存在したことがわかります。
