The next set of caches along the South County Trail. Trying to continue on with H2"O"s great work on the North County Trail. A nice walk on the paved trail from the parking location. Bring your own pen.
The South County Trailway is a 14.1-mile (22.7 km) long trail stretching from Van Cortlandt Park in The Bronx to Elmsford in Westchester, NY. Construction started in the 1990s and was completed in 2011. Most sections of the trailway are paved. This was once the part of the New York Central Railroad system.
Poison Ivy is very common along this trail, but I did my best to avoid it.
The cache is a camoed micro container. You should not need to leave the path for this cache.
This area is a rail trail, so most of the pathway is pancake flat. Since this pathway runs along the Saw Mill River, there are several locations at which the trail passes over water. At a few locations, including this one, the water is not that far below the bridge. Every year during a heavy rain storm, the River floods the parkway and the rail trail. This is evident in the additional rusting of the bridge nearer to the bottom where it is at times underwater.
Parking is available at the posted coordinates.
