Raya Yai is an excellent place for scuba diving all around the
year. High season is from October to March but I would recommend
the summertime as well. Also Raya Noi is known from its healthy
reefs and clear waters. Although you can dive here during daytrips
from Phuket, I would strongly recommend staying for a longer time
in one of the hotels on the island. Then you don't have to hurry
with this cache.
There are three dive-centers on Raya Yai.
Raya Divers is a Padi dive center with office at Ao Batok near The
Racha Hotel.
Racha Seamaster Divers is at hotel Racha.
There is also one dive-center at Ban Raya hotel.
Diving can be done here from the shore or from a longtail
boat.
You need to dive to ~ 20 meters depth during this multicache. Basic
certification is not good enough. If that’s a problem you can
improve your skills with diving-instructors. I recommend using
experienced divemasters help anyway to complete these dives. These
two divesites should be available most of the time, but the weather
and tide can make them impossible to dive sometimes.
Dive 1, Siam bay (around start coordinates)
How many concrete elephants are sunken into approximately 20 meters
(60 feet) depth? That is A.
Dive 2, Homerun reef
(See the waypoint for inaccurate coordinates) There is a small
wreck Andaman explorer lying on the sand bottom near the
homerun reef at approximately 20 meters. The wreck is not in good
condition, but there is a lot of life around it. How many windows
are at the cabin of the wreck? That is B.
Alternatively there is a new "artificial reef", 2009 sunken ship.
How many windows are there at upper deck? Don't count the doors!
That is the same number B. Now look the final coordinate from the
table below.
Try satellite view, since the map is poor.
SCUBA DIVING WITHOUT PROPER TRAINING AND EQUIPMENT IS
NOT
SAFE, CONSULT DIVE CENTER!
Be prepared that this multi can take a lot of time to solve!
(Take your laptop with you, since there are several restaurants
with free wlan.)
Weather, tide etc. can make it sometimes impossible to dive to
these two divesites.
Small note on cache maintenance: There is a local
cache guardian who will assist.
