Geocache Description:

You are looking for a 5 leg cache with a 30 cal ammo can at the final. Some math is needed to get you through the first 3 legs, then you need to find a micro before finding the final.

LSP Permit #44

This is my 5th hide in Letchworth State Park and I have decided to take you on a journey that will show you the connection this area had during the days of the civil war. During those days this was not Letchworth Park. It was Mr. Letchworth's personal estate and the area that the men trained and mustered out of was a field that was briefly used to train the soldiers for battle. At the first location you will see a large obelisk that recognizes the people that served in the 2 regiments that trained there. Originally this monument was located across the Genesee River at the Parade grounds, but William Pryor Letchworth had it moved onto his estate where it now resides. The park maintains property on both sides of the river and you will get to see all of the historic places that now reside in Letchworth Park that have a Civil War connection.

So let's get started!

Once you have arrived at the first location you will need to perform a little simple math to move you along to the next historic place, so here is what you need to do to get the coordinates to the second leg. Multiply the number of soldiers killed or died of wounds at Todd's Tavern by 2 then subtract that number from the last 4 digits of the north coordinates at this location. For the west coordinates subtract 371 from the last 4 numbers at you present location. Now you have the coordinates to Leg #2.

Leg #3 Now that you have found your way to Leg #2, it's time for more math to get you to the 3rd leg. To get the North coordinates count the number of spokes in just one wheel and then multiply that number by 4 and add it to the last 2 numbers of the north coordinates of your present location then add 8 to that total. For the west coordinates, add 74 to the last 2 numbers of the west coordinates at your current location.

Leg #4 Last math needed. At the 3rd Leg there is a lot of information here but I will try to keep it simple. So let's figure out the north coordinates needed to get you to the 4th leg. Multiply the number of battle flags captured by 2 and then subtract that number from the total number of wagons and ambulances captured. Now add this number to the north coordinates at your present location. Finally for the west coordinates once again multiply the number of battle flags captured by 2 and subtract that number from the number of animals of draught captured. Take this number and subtract it from the west coordinates at you current location.

At the location these coordinates take you too, look for a well hidden camouflaged, waterproof matchstick container. This container holds the coordinates to the final location where the cache is hidden.

I hope you enjoyed your tour of Letchworth Park's connection to the civil war. Please take time to read the plaques that are there for your pleasure and also remember those brave and dedicated soldiers that volunteered to give their all out of love and respect for our country.

I wish to thank Park Manager Roland Beck for reviewing and approving the placement of this cache.

I have added a clue that may help you get past leg #4.
