Geocache Description:

In a lonely wind swept park sits a pile of rubble and one Date Palm. Scant reminder of a time long past. A small creek flows nearby with the parks most common visitors, the Pelican, Black Swan, and various Ducks. But it was not always so.

Starting in 1873 the Williamstown Racetrack was one of Victoria's most popular. The final Cup of the Spring Carnival was held here. It had a huge grandstand, its own railway station, extensive gardens, and a footbridge across the creek.

What the Grandstand used to look like!

Racing was suspended during the Second World War and it became an army camp.

The grandstand was destroyed by fire in 1946. All that is left now is what you see.

The cache:

Firstly, No digging! as there is a High Pressure Gas Pipeline nearby (and if we loose feed at work there will be trouble!)

The cache is a 400ml Sistema that does not require you to plunge your arm into any unknown holes (or move large sections of rubble).
