This cache is located off of my favorite hike-- the Appalachian Trail to Angel's Rest Overlook and beyond.
The round trip to Angel's Rest from the Pearisburg AT trailhead (directions below) is roughly 3 miles. However, you will ascend 1400-1500 feet in that timespan. The view is well worth the sweat and achy legs!
At first this cache was destined for Angel's Rest and I still recommend a stop there. However, today after a usual stop at Angel's Rest, we went further down the AT to another spectacular, more spacious, overlook.
The cache is set near that second overlook. You MUST check it out after getting the cache-- especially if the fall colors are still in full force! Just keep going down the AT (away from Angel's Rest) for about 10-20 yards after the cache site.

For those who have never been to Angel's Rest before-- you are getting close to the top of the climb when the trail enters a thicket of rhododendrum. The elevation change from Angel's Rest to the second overlook is negligible.
Directions to AT Trailhead in Pearisburg. Take 460 to VA-100. Turn right on Johnston Avenue (right after Dairy Queen). Turn right on Morris Avenue. The trailhead will be on the left in about 1/2 a mile.
